Who We Are

Behavioral Research Associates, Inc. (BRA) was established in 1984 when we opened our doors to support people with intellectual challenges and other disabilities that would live in our home on Southern Avenue in 1986, Burns Street in 1987, Lee Street in 1991 and finally the Nannie Helen Burroughs house, which opened in 1992.

BRA is a non-profit human services organization operating in the District of Columbia. We have been providing residential services under the ICF/IDD model for the past 32 years. BRA is also an approved Home and Community-based waiver provider approved to provide supported living services, residential habilitation, in-home supports and multiple clinical services.

Ongoing Mission

Bridging the Gap

We believe that people with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities (IDD) have the right to live full and meaningful lives, regardless of their abilities. Our mission is to continue providing high-quality, integrated, and person-centered services and supports to persons with intellectual challenges and other disabilities in the least restrictive manner possible. BRA continues to bridge the gap for people with any intellectual or developmental challenge or disability.

BRA continues to adhere to the philosophy of being the strongest possible advocate for the rights of each person supported.

BRA has accepted the challenge - created by its vision - of supporting people with significant support needs including but not limited to significant and multiple health concerns. BRA continues to provide the needed services and supports in community-based homes that

meet the existing neighborhood standards in external and internal appearances and upkeep.

BRA continues to provide services that are in line with each person's individual support plan and the governing regulations for those services. BRA will continue being an employer of choice for persons seeking to enter and grow in this field, supporting persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

We do this by providing a wide range of services, including:

  • Residential services
  • Day habilitation services
  • Vocational training
  • Education and training
  • Job training and placement
  • Supported employment
  • Community integration services
  • Recreation and leisure
  • And more!

Please join us in helping the persons we support reach their goals and live their best lives.
